  • The Old St.-John's Hospital in Bruges is one of Europe's oldest surviving hospital buildings. The hospital grew during the Middle Ages and was a place where sick pilgrims and travellers were cared for. The site was later expanded with the building of a monastery and convent.   • The ‘Schellemolen’ along the Damme canal is one of the most photographed mills in the world. Formerly a wooden mill stood on the same spot, named the ‘Scellemeulen’. Today the mill, built in 1867, is owned by the Province of West Flanders and protected as a monument.   • Guido Reybrouck is a former Belgian professional cyclist. Guido is a legendary cyclist. Amongst his many victories were Paris-Tours, Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, the Amstel Gold Race and 6 stages in the Tour de France. He won the Belgian National Championship in 1966. Cycling in the Bruges countryside

The Bruges countryside is quite diverse. To the east lies the Oudland polder, lush green pastures reclaimed from the sea. The Belgian east coast with it’s sandy beaches caters to everyone, from buoyant Blankenberge over quiet Zeebrugge to posh Knokke. To the south and west  the Houtland region leads you through richly wooded areas.
